What is EAP?

The objectives of Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) services are

the maintenance and improvement of labour performance in the workplace,
through
providing immediate and professional counselling to employees facing personal difficulties.

The services of EAP are accessible to seek solutions and relief for virtually any mental or personal life issues, such as for example health concerns, stress, depression, personal relationship matters, family affairs, childcare and eldercare, alcohol, drugs and other addictions, deaths and similar emotional crises, workplace relationships, legal issues, financial matters, to mention only a few.

Why is it important?

In addition to the quality of one's personal life, workplace performance is also often adversely affected by mental and personal life issues. It is a widely recognized fact, that the effects of stress, anxiety and depression stemming from problems in personal life, conflicts at the workplace, or financial worries, for example, unavoidably appear in the workplace and frequently lead to significant reduction in attendance, concentration and work attitude.

People are very often not capable to effectively overcome these personal issues alone, resulting in prolonged periods of decreased work performance. EAP provides a solution.

Additionally, EAP is a reasonable way for employers to comply with "duty of care" obligations assigned by law, which includes reducing mental health risks, among others.

The benefits of EAP for employees are evident. It is equally important, however, that employers also experience a multitude of improvements, such as

reduced absenteeism and presenteeism,
